    Bendix Drive for`63

Is this the correct Bendix Drive for this `63 Starter I found in my left over parts?

Tough to say from the picture (lack of detail)...

My notes call for a solenoid or 'switch' assy of 1119910 on '62-63E cars and 1114304 on 63L-64E cars. I'd expect to find the AC PN stamped on the solenoid's 'can' typically positioned 'top' side relative to the solenoid's installed position.

Next, I'd expect the rear Bakelite cover to be black in color AND bear the stylized Delco Remy logo on its rear outer surface between the electrical connecting terminals. Pictures provided lack sufficient close-up detail to render a determination.

Last, the finish of solenoid case is an issue. Some JG books call for the case to painted black, others allow for the finish to be EITHER black paint or raw plating...

Show me the actual "Bendix" drive and I will hazard a guess.

You photo only show the starter solenoid and starter case and nose. The "Bendix' is the small gear drive system that is on the armature shaft that move in and out with the solenoid activation. It spins freely in one direction and is locked in the other to allow it to rotate the flywheel.

Or are you asking about the solenoid?

Right!! I actually WAS asking about the Solenoid.

It is an April or May 63 date on the starter.

Your solenoid looks to be a parts store rebuilt,
appears to be a replated case with pits and new cap.

The solenoid attaching screws look good though.

The solenoid attaching screws should have a lock washer correct?

Gary, that solenoid looks like the service 1114458 GM service solenoid with the brown cap and related parts. These service solenoids still have the GM # stamped into the top like the originals.

The original 1119910 is not easy to find but your starter itself looks very nice.
